Siem Reap Bus Station stop and arrival

by Cecile

Hi, your site is wonderful. Help ease a lot of anxiety since I am a female traveling alone in the Southeast Asia. My questions,

1) I am taking a sleepers bus from Vientiane to Siem Reap directly, what time does the bus reach Siem Reap and what bus station does it stop?

2) You stated, that people going to Siem Reap will hop on the same bus as those people going to Phnom Pehn, is this the same when we transfer buses in Pakse? Will I also hop on the same bus of those people going to Phnom Penh or do I hop on a different bus from there?

3) How many hours ahead should I show up at the Dong Dok station before it departs?

Thank you

Lao-Cambodia border
by: D.

Yes, I can understand your feeling. You do the right things, find out as much info as you can will help.

The name of the Lao-Cambodia border is Dong Kralor/Stung Treng. There is only one international border for Lao-Cambodia.

Hope this helps clear things up a bit more.

E-visa from Lao to Cambodia
by: Cecile

Hi D,

Thank you once again. As I mentioned in my prior post, traveling alone is giving me mix emotions of excitement and scared. I do have a couple more questions. What is the name of the border that I will be crossing from Vientiane to Siem Reap using the Sorya Bus? I was wondering if they accepted e-visa? I want to apply for my visa online for Cambodia so I dont have to deal with it on arrival.

Siem Reap Bus Station
by: D.

To be honest I'm not sure whether or not there is only one bus station in Siem Reap, and don't know where Sorya station located.

I'll try to find that out. If I have any update I'll share here. Otherwise, you can always work around that, tell the person who will pick you up that you'll arrive on Sorya bus from Laos. I think most locals know where the bus station is.

Siem Reap Bus Station

Thank you for the quick response, I cant find the Siem Reap Sorya bus station anywhere on the net. Is there only one bus station in Siem Reap where all the buses stop? I want to arrange a pick up, so I want to make sure to tell them exactly where to fetch me.

Thank you

Vientiane - Siem Reap bus
by: D.

Hi Cecile,

Nice to hear my site can help ease your anxiety.
Following are my answers (below each question).

1)I am taking a sleepers bus from Vientiane to Siem Reap directly, what time does the bus reach Siem Reap and what bus station does it stop?

The bus reaches Siem Reap around 7pm. The bus station is Sorya station.

Your bus leaves to Pakse from Vientiane bus station around 8:30pm, arrive at Pakse around 6am, you then hop on Pakse – Phnom Penh bus at round 7:30am, cross border to Cambodia and reach Kompong Cham around 4pm where a change of bus takes place. Sorya bus takes you from Kompong Cham and arrives at their station in Siem Reap 2-3 hours later (distance is 200KM).

2)You stated, that people going to Siem Reap will hop on the same bus as those people going to Phnom Pehn, is this the same when we transfer buses in Pakse? Will I also hop on the same bus of those people going to Phnom Penh or do I hop on a different bus from there?

Yes, people going to Siem Reap hop on the same bus as people going to Phnom Penh
(not different one) regardless of transfer buses or not. There is only one bus per day to Cambodia.

3) How many hours ahead should I show up at the Dong Dok station before it departs?

One hour should be sufficient. If you have nothing else to do why not go earlier so you can take the best seat (bed). However, if you don’t have that much time to spare, I think 30 minutes ahead should be OK too, but you won’t have many choices regarding seat (bed).

Hope this help ease your anxiety a bit more.
