What to do and see in Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang is small though packed with attractions, both historical and natural. When looking for things to do or see, there are many diversions on offer like visiting caves and waterfalls, going on a Mekong boat ride, visiting the Elephant Village and the National Museum, climbing up mount Phousi to see sun set or shopping at the night market at the foot of the mount Phousi.

Kuang Si Waterfall

Located about 30km south of town, Kuang Si Waterfall is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Luang Prabang. The road to the falls is interesting as are the falls themselves, passing several bridges and a dusty road with spectacular hill views. Kuang Si is a great destination for a hot afternoon, swimming is possible at designated areas. There are food and drink stalls if you are hungry after your swim. More about the Kuang Si Waterfall

Elephant Village and Camp

Elephant Village is a government-approved camp where rescued or retired elephants are cared for humanely. Have an easy going scenic elephant ride around the village and through the river. Get closer to the elephants by bathing them. You may get to learn words of command and use them to guide the elephants. You can go there on a tour (half-day, one-day, two-day or three-day), or just get to the village independently. More about elephant village

Royal Palace (National Museum)

Royal Palace in Luang Prabang, Laos The Royal Palace is located within walking distance of most hotels, guest houses and restaurants. It’s opposite Phou Si hill and you can get a good perspective of the Palace from the top of the hill. The Royal Palace is one of the finest historic museums in Laos. Luang Prabang night market

The night market offers the most extensive collection of handicrafts in the country. Hundreds of stalls are set up here every night to sell handicrafts made by local ethnic groups.
