Follow up questions about Laos Visa for Turkey (Turkish citizen)

by Inanc

Dear D.Phothisane

Thanks for your reply. I have two questions?

1) Most Turkish citizen couldn't get visa from Bangkok Laos Embassy. Can I get it from Khonekaen, Thailand? Is there a fax number only connection to ask them questions?

2) Can I get visa from any of the Laos Embassy by sending my passport by cargo. Do you have idea which embassy should I send my passport.

Regards,

Inanc

Dear Inanc,

Happy New Year.

First of all, I'd like to apologize for not being able to get back to you sooner, I was on a New Year break, sorry. I hope it's not too late to response to your questions now.

I've just called to check with the Lao consulate in Khon Kaen regarding your question. The answer I've got is YES you can get Lao visa at the Lao embassy in Bangkok as well as in Khon Kaen under one condition: You need to get the Thai immigration officer to certify that they'll allow you to enter Thailand again when exiting Laos.

If you're not sure what this is, don't worry. When you go applying for the visa at the embassy or consulate in Bangkok or Khon Kaen, the consulate staff will advise you what to do or where to go. They also can facilitate (if needed) to get a taxi/Tuk Tuk and ask the driver to take you to the nearest Thai immigration office. If there is any language barrier, they can even ask the driver to explain to the immigration officer what you need. So... I'm confident that there will be no problems.

If you want to find out by yourself here are numbers of Lao consulate in Khon Kaen.

Tel: +6643 242-858
Fax: +6643 244-918

These numbers can also be found on the Lao embassy page.

You said most Turkish citizen couldn't get visa from Bangkok Laos Embassy.

There are many factors contributing to this, not just their citizenship. It could be that they don't have good records e.g in a black list or something.

I would suggest that you call the embassy to ask for as much details as you can to make sure that you don't end up arriving at the embassy/consulate only to find that you can't get the visa.

As for your question #2, I'm not sure about this and I won't guess. If you contact the consulate I'm sure they can advise you on the matter, they should know because it's their job after all.

According to my research there isn't a Lao embassy anywhere near Turkey. But again I'm not sure if the info I've is accurate.

Hope this helps to ease your Lao travel planning.

Dear Sir or Madam (Sabaidee),

I am Turkish citizen and I want to visit Laos in this summer with my wife. I want to schedule my itinerary and plan my travel. I have heard that Turkish citizen can’t get Laos visa from airport or border. There is no Laos Embassy in Turkey. How can we (me and my wife) get visa?

Regards,

Dear Inanc,

Thanks for visiting my site and for your interests in traveling to Laos.

What you've heard is right. Turkish along with 28 other nationals can't get Lao visa on arrival (at borders or air ports). See the list here

You can only get Lao visa at the Lao embassies or consulates abroad. Visit Lao embassy page for contact info.

If there isn't a Lao embassy near your county, the easiest option is to get it on your way to Laos. I'd assume that you will travel through one of Laos' neighbor countries (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia,China, or Myanmar), right?

If that's the case then you can get the visa there, though you might need to spend a day or two there while your visa is being processed.

Hope this helps.

If you have more questions about Laos feel free to drop me a message through the contact form or to my email. I'll do my best to answer.

Best,
D.Phothisane
